Our AAHA accredited practice has been part of the Stanwood/Camano community for over 100 years! We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to support our Veterinarians and other team members in our very busy, five-doctor hospital. Our emphasis is on high quality medicine, and you’ll play an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and in providing exceptional customer service to our clients. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all areas are clean, for animals and humans alike. We’ll rely on you to assist the Veterinarian with examinations and procedures, along with many other duties to ensure our patients receive the best medical care possible.
Previous experience is a must, as well as the ability to work one Saturday per month. You need the ability to care for patients properly and interact well with our clients. This includes knowledge of routine tasks, readiness to care for injured or frightened animals, and assist with euthanasias. If you’re organized, quick on your feet, a team player with a positive attitude, we’d like to meet you.
Responsibilities
- Assist with curbside service and in exam rooms
- Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms
- Restrain animals during examinations or vaccinations
- Soothe upset or frightened animals
- Observe animal behavior or health condition and report to the Vet
- Help in cases of emergencies
- Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, begin S.O.A.P, calling clients with certain results, etc.
- Keep accurate records
- Promote and educate clients with our standard of care
Skills
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals is a must
- Experience in an administrative role is a plus
- Current or former pet ownership is an advantage
- Excellent communication skills
- Patient and caring personality
- Ability to follow instructions properly
- Comfortable being around animals
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs)
- Availability to occasionally work in emergencies
- High school diploma; a certificate from a Veterinary Assistant program is a plus
- Possess good grammar and spelling
